Preventive Dentistry

Keeping up with your regular dental cleanings is one of the best ways you can care for your teeth. Imagine not having a regular cleaning or exam over a long period of time. Cavities, infection, or plaque build-up can occur, causing you to have large expenses to fix these problems. Coming in every six month (or as recommended by your hygienist) can prevent having large problems, and allows you to fix them while they are still small and inexpensive.

As a new patient, your initial appointment will give us an opportunity to review your past medical and dental history, and to discuss any concerns you may have and treatment goals. Whether your goal is to achieve outstanding dental health or to finally get the beautiful smile you have always imagined, our suggestions for your care are based upon principles that insure the best long-term results.

We take x-rays during the first visit and educate you on our findings and to give you possible treatment options.  Here in our office we take digital x-rays that allow the most accurate and efficient diagnosis of your dental condition. With digital x-rays we are able to avoid chemicals used in traditional developing processes and there is up to 80 percent less radiation exposure.

A routine cleaning would also be done, and in addition to that we provide tooth polishing, and fluoride (up to age 13). During your routine cleanings ultrasonic scalers and hand scaling would be used to remove light or moderate tartar and plaque buildup from all visible tooth surfaces. Periodontal charting would be done in part of the routine cleaning to determine what periodontal care would be best on a case by case basis.

Some other preventative services we include in our practice would include sealants, which are a plastic resin that is placed over the grooves of the teeth the prevent tooth decay (cavities), and mouth guard, which can be used to protect your teeth in recreational sports. We also can take Intraoral images that allow us to take a tooth by tooth video exam to view your tooth enlarged an in living to color to view problem areas that may not be as easily seen in a regular oral exam.

For protection of your teeth we also provide mouth guards, which can be used as protection in recreational sports. Mouth guards are a flexible, plastic appliance that is meant to be worn to protect teeth from trauma. More than 200,000 injuries occur in the mouth each year. A mouth guard can prevent serious injuries such as concussions, cerebral hemorrhages, incidents of unconsciousness, jaw fractures and neck injuries by helping to avoid situations where the lower jaw gets jammed into the upper jaw
