Gingivitis
Things to know before your visit
Gingivitis is a common and mild form of gum disease (periodontal disease) that causes irritation, redness and swelling (inflammation) of your gingiva, the part of your gum around the base of your teeth. It’s important to take gingivitis seriously and treat it promptly to avoid it developing into a more serious condition; periodontitis.
After your oral exam, our staff will determine whether or not you need treatment for gingivitis. If you do, our hygienist will give you a thorough cleaning with scaling and root planning. After this, if restoration is needed our dentist will go over the options. The final step is receiving an at home treatment plan to keep good oral health.
Be sure to let our dentist know of any pain or discomfort you are experiencing before the procedure. If you do not treat gingivitis early, it may develop into periodontitis, a more serious condition.
